Historical Museum Paulista is located in Sao Paulo, is part of the architectural ensemble of Independence Park. This is the most significant Museum of the University of são Paulo and one of the most frequently visited public institutions in the city.

The Museum has a large collection of various objects of art historical significance, in a separate meeting dedicated ones that have any relation to the independence of Brazil and the corresponding historical period. One of the most famous creations - the canvas of the painter Pedro Americo 1888 "Independence or death". Since August 2013 the Museum is partly closed to the public "for the construction, reconstruction and repair." Opening is planned in 2022, the bicentennial anniversary of independence.

The construction of the building began by the architect and Italian engineer Tommaso Gaudenzio Bezzi in 1884. He presented a building project on a site where there was a historic proclamation of the independence of Brazil. Building with a length of 123 meters and a width of 16 meters is replete with decorative elements. Its architectural style is eclectic, based on the Palace in the Renaissance style with rich decorations. The walls are constructed mainly of ceramic bricks, which was a novelty at the time (city buildings were still being built of unbaked clay). Work ended 15 November 1890, the first anniversary of the Republic. The Grand opening of the Museum took place five years later, with the Foundation of the Museum of natural Sciences, which later became part of the exhibition.

In 1909, the Belgian designer Arsenio Puttemans completed the gardening around the building. The layout of the garden was modified in the 1920-ies of the German landscape designer Reynaldo Dierberger and preserved until today.

Currently in the halls and collections exhibits total more than 125 million units. Among them, samples of iconography, manuscripts and printed documents Dating from the 17th century to the middle of the 20th century, telling about the history, stages of development of the country.
