The assumption Cathedral is the Cathedral Orthodox Cathedral in Varna. Located in the heart of the city, in the square of St. Cyril and Methodius. The construction of the temple was started in 1880 at the initiative of the king of Bulgaria Alexander I Battenberg. In memory of the Russian Empire, Empress Maria Alexandrovna, wife of Alexander II, who was the Governor's aunt, the Church was consecrated in the name of the assumption of the Holy virgin.

The Foundation of the Church was made by architect from Odessa Maas, and on the creation of the building bothered Varna architect P. Kupka. Funding for the construction was mainly financed through private donations, although raising money was also organized a lottery in which the organizers have sold about one hundred and fifty thousand tickets cost two leva each. Construction was completed in October 1885. By 1949, on the walls of the temple came the painting, and in 60-ies in the large Windows overlooking the square, was inserted into the stained glass. At the end of XX - beginning of XXI century, the Cathedral was carried out restoration of the frescoes, mounted the ventilation system, updated coverage of the domes and the roof, and installed a unique system of external lighting of the building, designed effectively to enhance the beauty of its architecture in the evening.

Cathedral of the assumption many consider one of the symbols of Varna and with its high bell tower offers excellent views of the entire city.
