The monument of Independence, or "You Ecorich", located in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia. It was erected in 1958 to celebrate independence of Cambodia that occurred five years earlier. The monument is located in the city centre, at the junction of the boulevards "Norodom" and "Sihanouk". The Independence monument built in the shape of a traditional Khmer-style stupa, a Lotus, some of it more reminiscent of pineapple. The style of construction chosen by chance, it resembles the great Khmer temple of Angkor Wat and other historical buildings. Project Independence Monument was designed by Cambodian architect modern Bath Olivanna.

This symbol of Independence of Cambodia during public holidays becomes the Central object around which the locals gather and visitors. Inside the pedestal these days members of the Royal family or high government officials lit the ceremonial flame, and to the stairs people bring flowers.

Independence monument is one of the most photographed and visited attractions of Cambodia, depicted on the local currency and postcards. Climb the ladder to the base is prohibited, but you can conduct photo and video shooting.
