On the island of Tsuujou, near the city of Changsha is located a unique monument of architecture, dedicated to the great political leader of China, Mao Zedong, who played a key role in the formation and development of Communist China. Place for the erection of the monument was not chosen by chance, as the Communist leader was born in the small village of shaoshan (Hunan province), and spent much time in his native place.

The construction of the monument began in 2007 under the close supervision of the people's government of Changsha. To implement such a large-scale project in the city had delivered around 8,000 units of red granite, produced in Fujian province. The total investment in the attraction, has made more than 290 million yuan. The main purpose of the master sculptor si Le of Wine was the creation of the image of a leader in an unconventional style. Therefore, the monument depicts a young thirty-two year old Mao Zedong, whose hair windblown, and the overall appearance devoid of stereotypical Communist perception.

For visitors the monument was opened in 2009 in honor of the 116th anniversary of the birth of Mao Zedong. Further, in the vicinity of sights were built the Museum which collection is devoted to the revolutionary activities and biographies of the Communist leader, and his numerous associates. Soon the Museum opened a research center to study the works of Mao Zedong. Every year, the statue, the Museum and the centre is visited by over 500 thousand tourists, noting that the monument is indeed one of a kind and have different personalities.
