Tiger Leaping gorge, or Huatsjao, is not only the most valuable natural object located at a distance of 60 kilometers from the city Lijiang, but a godsend for the lovers of rafting. This fact is explained by the fact that the gorge for 15 kilometers of naturally formed cascades rapids, which attract the attention of extreme tourists.

The gorge is characterised by two mountain ranges: Habaswein (snow mountain Hub) and jade dragon snow mountain (jade dragon Mountain). Traditionally, the name of Huatsjao originates from the ancient Chinese legend about a brave tiger, who decided to jump over the gorge at its narrowest part. However, the jump was unsuccessful, tiger crashed on earth and were frozen forever in stone.

Huatsjao is an integral part of the national Park "Three parallel rivers" and is open for visits since 1993. The first attempts to overcome difficult rapids were undertaken in 1980 by a group of Chinese athletes, traces of which were lost in the cliffs. After this incident, the Lijiang government has decided to temporarily suspend trips to this dangerous area.
