Geological Museum of China is one of the largest science museums in the country. The Museum was opened in 1916, and his story began with the opening of one exhibition room. Today the Museum has 5 halls with exhibitions on the history of the planet, mineral resources, precious stones.

In the hall of mineral resources exhibited a variety of minerals, widely used in chemical industry, agriculture, in the production of steel or iron metallurgy and in various sectors of economic industry.

The second exhibition hall is an exhibition and various exhibits demonstrating all the periods of Earth's history for billions of years, i.e., from the time when it was uninhabited star, to the present time, when the planet full of diverse life. In this room you can see the remains of various ancient animals, minerals that have been mined in different periods of history.

In a room with minerals, visitors to the Museum can see hundreds of different minerals, and in the hall with precious stones are stones such as jade, ruby, sapphire, aquamarine and beryl. Also here is kept one of the biggest gems on the planet - a rock crystal, which weighs 3.5 kg.

The number of the exhibits in the Museum - more than 200 thousand. One of the most famous: Big Shandong Dragon - well-preserved specimen of a dinosaur, the remains of ancient people, which was discovered in China, the relics found in places of human habitation in the caves of Sanding, and the teeth of the people Wanmu, which was discovered by archaeologists in Yunnan province.

In addition to the educational objectives of the Geological Museum of China has some scientific functions. This institution is an unusual laboratory, and publishing centre. The study, which was organized by the Museum in respect of finds of ancient birds in the area of Liaoning province, has received worldwide recognition.
