Rijeka city Museum was established by resolution of the city Council of the city 11 April 1994. The Museum is located in one of the buildings of the Park of the Governor's Palace, which was built in 1976. The building was built by architect Nevena Linguica.

The Museum presents materials that have been collected over the last ten years. In addition, there are materials obtained as a result of various studies conducted recently by Museum staff. Collected the exhibition devoted to the history of the city, the history of the construction of the main architectural objects of Rijeka (bridges, factories, parks, fountains). Also collected a lot of materials on the history of the harbour.

In addition, here are articles of precious metals that once belonged to the local noble families, as well as the creativity of prominent citizens of Rijeka: architect Igor Emily, pictures of Victor Hreljanovic, painting of Richard chick, as well as elements of scenography, costumes, preserved from the performances staged at the local theater.

The second division of the Museum is the national Museum of the revolution. It was founded in 1961 on the initiative of the people's Committee Siljak local municipality. Part of the Museum collection was moved to a new building, but most of the exhibits are still stored in the collections of the City Museum of Rijeka.
