Photos and description

The Museum Lapidarium in Novigrad was built by the architectural firm Randiс - Turato on the river Bank. The new building is called the "two black boxes set in a Park". The Museum is located in the historical centre of the city. Opened in late 2006.

The permanent collection of the Museum are architectural monuments and a large number of items for the Liturgy and fragments of the decoration of temples: altars, canopies, pilasters, capitals. The collection covers the period from the 1st to the 18th century.

The main and most important part of the exhibition is a collection of early medieval monuments, sculptures and Church furniture, given to the Museum from the nearby Cathedral. In the collection a special place is occupied by the remains of kivoriy of the Bishop of Mauritius (8th century), stored until then in the baptistery. Four baluster from the same collection are probably the only example of such work in Europe.
