Art Museum of South Karelia, located in the former artillery barracks built in 1798, was opened after restoration in the fall of 1965.

The neoclassical building with round arches in perfect harmony with the display in it well-known works of famous Finnish artists and other artists of the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Special attention is paid to the exposition dedicated to modern art of South-Eastern Finland, has received a rapid development in the 60-ies of the last century. Every year, each season, the Museum exhibition is updated. Here also exhibited paintings and graphic works by young Finnish artists.
