The walk of Freedom Charles de Gaulle: photos, description (Allees de la Liberte Charles-de-Gaulle)

The walk of Freedom Charles de Gaulle, a pedestrian area not far from the Palace of festivals and Congress hall, and is equally beloved by tourists and citizens.

Wide space planted with plane trees, but it looks spacious. It lies between monument to the fallen, towering in front of Cannes city hall and a charming fountain of the XIX century in the square of General de Gaulle. On the alley there is another monument here immortalized Lord Henry broom, without which Cannes, quite possibly, would not have become a fashionable resort.

It is believed that the Alley is a very Provencal place. Although nearby, across the road, is the Palace of festivals and Congress hall, then slowly flows almost village life. In the mornings (except Mondays) on the streets selling flowers, and on weekends open from two markets - arts and crafts and a flea. And cancy, and tourists scrutinize old trinkets and eyeing the paintings and Souvenirs. Walking with children running to the traditional carousel that is spinning in front of the monument to Lord Broom.

Closer to city hall is an old bandstand for orchestras - it was built in 1880 municipal architect Louis Urle. Graceful columns holding the circular roof of the pavilion: at a time when microphones didn't exist, the roof needed not only as protection from the sun, but also to improve the acoustics. Estrada is considered a historical monument, but is still used: every year on June 21, during the music festival held throughout France, there are local orchestras, including the orchestra of students of Conservatory of Cannes.

Most people love the walk of Freedom due to the fact that there is a dedicated special area for pétanque. This Provencal national sport (throwing metal balls according to special rules) is very popular in Cannes. During the Cannes film festival here on the paths of Freedom, usually held the tournament in petanque among celebrities. In other months, too, play: if tourists are lucky, they'll find some on the competition. The audience sitting on metal fence, eating sandwiches from a nearby kiosk, rooting for their team. And I will not say that it is the center of the brilliant city.
