Bruniquel is a beautiful old village in the South of France, region MIDI - Pyrenees. It is included in the Association "Most beautiful villages of France". It is home to only 560.

Located at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level, is a small settlement, surrounded by strong ramparts, towers over the river averon. At the village is its tributary - the river Ver. The town is famous for the fact that it managed to maintain an authentic atmosphere of the middle Ages, including the amazing old houses made of pink stone and red tile roof.

The main attraction of the village Bruniquel are two fortified castle. Old castle dates back to the XII century, although the previous buildings on this location date back to the sixth century and belonged to Queen Brunhilde. Among the famous residents of this castle it is worth noting Guillaume Tulskogo, author of "Songs about the Albigensian crusade and the beginning of XIII century. Interestingly, even before the XX century the castle was inhabited. The bright part of the fortress - gallery with a length of 20 meters, made in the style of the Renaissance. She is at the edge of a rocky cliff and offers a literally breathtaking view of the river Aveyron and the surrounding area. Tourists in the vicinity are advised to exercise special care.

The "new" castle was built really later - "only" in the XV century. Now it is a Museum of primitive art. His collection consists of finds discovered in the deep caves of the region, where 50 thousand years ago, lived the Neanderthals. Of special interest are harpoons made of deer bones. By the way, one of these caves, where were found ancient artifacts, is open to tourist visits - the descent is on the grounds of the castle.

In addition, the village has preserved many old houses, including the former Ducal residence, and the Cathedral of the XII century. Another settlement Bruniquel is interesting in that it is annually held music festival, which includes the famous operetta by French composer Jacques Offenbach. And in 1975 this town was the film "Old gun", in which the main roles were performed by stars of world cinema, Philippe noiret and Romy Schneider.
