The natural history Museum of Nantes: photo description (Museum d'histoire naturelle de Nantes)

Natural history Museum - one of the many museums in the French city of Nantes, located in the pays de La Loire region in the West of the country.

The Museum's first premises were opened by the city Apothecary in 1799, and was his personal "Cabinet of rarities", very common in the age of Enlightenment. It was submitted to the natural science collections on botany, Zoology, Mineralogy, paleontology and Geology. In 1806 all the exhibits were purchased by the state and placed in a new location in the former school of surgery, built in 1765 and located in the Old town. The official opening of the Museum took place in 1810.

The new location of the Museum was not satisfied with his owners because he was too close to the river and therefore suffered from the damp. In 1836, the idea to move to the former building of the mint on the street of Voltaire (rue Voltaire), however, this plan was carried out only thirty years later, when he was made a massive overhaul of the streets. I have a free place to build a dedicated building for the Museum. The official opening took place in 1875. By the way, the natural history Museum could be placed in the same building of the mint, but only in the mid-twentieth century - 1970. Previously, there was located the higher school of Economics. The lecture hall with amphitheater was transformed into meeting rooms.

In 1955, the Museum opened the vivarium, which contains different animals. In 1988 it was reconstructed study of the Marquis d'abadie, the famous French ornithologist.

The main exhibit of the Museum is the skeleton of the fin (whales), the amount of which reaches 18 meters in length.
