Castle La Ferté-Saint-Aubin wasn't always a lock. At the beginning of its history it was a Abbey of La Ferté, built by Cistercian monks on the banks of the river of Solon in the XI century. Three centuries later the Abbey was a complex of buildings surrounded by a fortified wall and a moat.
