International Museum of naive art Anatole jakovsky: photos, description (Musee international d'art naif Anatole Jakovsky)

International Museum of naive art Anatole jakovsky may not be as popular among tourists in nice, the museums of Chagall or Matisse, but deserves the same attention and interest.

Anatole jakovsky, a native of Chisinau, in 1932, came to Paris to study architecture, and immediately got into the Montparnasse group of artists-abstractionists. The atmosphere of creative fever has excited Anatole, he realized that he wanted to be an architect and an art critic.

Jakowski quickly improved his French and in 1933 published the art history monograph in 1934 a book. He was friends with Braque, Zadkine, Picasso, studied them, wrote about them, it seemed, chose the theme forever. However, in the forties jakowski so lost interest in abstractionism, which even started to judge him. His new love was the so-called naive art, characterized by childlike simplicity of expression.

Before the Second world jakowski accidentally met with a young American woman Gertrude, Macbrady, who came to Paris just to walk after the third divorce. She was seriously ill, and jackowski advised her to draw, to escape. Thus was born a naive artist, who took the pseudonym Gertrude O Brady. Already during the war jakowski met with another naive artist, Jean Fu, and also saw the paintings of Henri Rousseau. All this determined the fate of the art - since then, he has all power given to the collecting of naive art and its promotion, including the organization of international exhibitions.

Despite the fact that critics had long struggled with self-ridiculing their art as primitive ("All too easy - the sky is blue, the trees green, and the pants are red"), now naive art recognized and is represented in museums around the world. What's more - it is now taught.

Jakowski loved not only naive art, but also nice. All of their collections he bequeathed to the city. The Museum opened in 1982 in the castle of St. Helena, the former residence of the famous perfumer françois Coty. On the gorgeous pink Villa there are about 600 paintings, drawings and sculptures by artists from 27 countries: Henri Rousseau, Louis Vivina, Ivan Generalich, grandma Moses, Serafini Louis and others. These works allow us to trace the history of naive art from XVIIIth century to the present day.

In a large Park with rare species of plants, surrounds the Villa, there are huge colourful sculptures of Frederic Lanovsky - as if they are preparing viewers to childishly joyful peace, which will open them in the Museum. They see simple lines and pure colors. Here's a happy moustache on the painting of Henri Rousseau Portrait of Frumence Bichet in mufti", here is fabulously beautiful Day and night in nice paper, Crociani, but the painting of the same O Gertrude Brady. It nice man in the sweater with the cat on one hand and a pipe in the other - is itself Anatole jakovski. It's like he looks at visitors of the Museum and quietly smiling.
