Among the many museums of La Rochelle, it is worth noting two that will be interesting to visit for those travelling with children. It is a Museum of automata (mechanical toys) and the Museum of miniature scale models.

For the first Museum of its organizers collected exhibits throughout France and even acquired them at auction in London. It took them about thirty years, so that visitors surprised, rejoiced and remembered their toys, looking at funny moving dolls, trains and automobiles that have graced shop Windows or have lived in children's rooms in the early and mid-twentieth century. The toys are not only moving, but also writing letters, playing musical instruments, playing cards and even drinking coffee. In addition to toys, you can see advertising mechanical machines and animated showcases. This Museum is called the unique and only in France, many items from his collection are true rarities and moved here from different antique shops and flea markets. The collection has about three hundred mechanical toys and other mechanisms.

Next to this Museum is a Museum of miniature scale models - yet another unique exhibition in La Rochelle. The city itself is represented in miniature form - you can see replicas of some of the city's buildings (e.g. station), and also model cars and ships. All the models were made specifically for this Museum, which opened in 1987.

Both museums are located in the former fishermen's quarter Gabyu, close to aquarium La Rochelle and Maritime Museum.
