The collection of the Museum of modern art in Saint-étienne recognized the second in size and importance after the Assembly of the Paris centre Georges Pompidou is one of the main museums and sights of France. The Museum was founded almost immediately after the end of world war II and opened in 1947. The new building was built for it at the beginning of this century. It was designed by the equally famous architect, specializing in architecture, urban spaces, Jean-Michel Wilmotte. The projects developed by his Studio, can be seen in different countries of the world, including in Russia - Moscow, Kaliningrad, Saint-Petersburg.

In the Saint-étienne Museum of modern art is located in the Northern part of the city, on the square Louis-Somte. In the Museum, besides the permanent exposition and temporary exhibitions are held.
