Center for contemporary art in Bordeaux is a very unusual Museum, both in its form and content. The collection of this Museum consists of works of avant-garde trends in painting and sculpture, and "framing" for them are harsh interior of a former warehouse for colonial goods. The building was built in 1824, and the Museum was opened in it only in the second half of the XX century - in 1973.

About the past of Bordeaux, associated with the colonial trade, reminiscent of the "wrong side" of the former warehouse premises was retained its original interior with arched vaults, well preserved terraces on its roof. This building in the last century was used for its intended purpose until the city authorities bought it from a private party. This was in the 60-ies, and after a few years the building was opened the first Museum exhibition.

Currently the collection includes about six hundred paintings by artists who worked in the 60-80-ies of the last century. The Museum regularly hosts exhibitions, which present their collections of works of art of various collectors, get the exposure of other museums. Also hosts exhibitions, participated in by young talented painters from different countries of the world.

The permanent exhibition includes about a thousand works of contemporary art, authored by almost 200 artists of the avant-garde. This collection is considered one of the largest in France. The center also becomes a venue for various cultural and educational events - concerts, seminars, meetings with artists and conferences.
