National Museum of Gustave Moreau: photos, description (Musee national Gustave Moreau)

The national Gustave Moreau Museum is very unusual. Maybe even exceptional. The artist himself conceived it in his lifetime, built, posted pictures, and the visitor knows that he sees exactly what Gustave Moreau wanted to show him.

Moreau is a French artist-symbolist, Professor at the School of fine arts. His painting focuses on biblical themes, ancient myths and mysticism, had a great influence on the development of art: the fauves Henri Matisse and Georges Rouault were pupils of Moreau, the founder of the surrealist poet andré Breton believed that Moreau is the precursor of this direction.

Moreau was not a secular person. Secluded living at home and constantly working. But dead parents, dead best friend lives in Adelaide-Alexandrina Dure. Elderly lonely artist thought that he will die and what will become of his work, his family nest, his memories? The paintings will be dispersed to museums, furniture sell, memories will disappear forever? Gustave Moreau came up with - it will create the Museum himself, and everything he loved, will remain at home.

In 1985 Moreau hired architect albert Lafon to rebuild the parental home - to turn it into a "small Museum". In the house there was a spacious gallery on the second floor, and the Moro settled on the ground. He died two years later. Not all had time to prepare, but most importantly made and unique Museum of the artist created by the artist, works.

On the first floor - the office of Moreau, his room is in the former salon of the mother, the dining room. Here only genuine things that belonged to family furniture, family utensils, collection of Antiques, an extensive library with publications of the XVI and XVII centuries, Souvenirs, reminding the artist of your loved one. All the way then. And the window opens in the same garden.

But of course the main Museum of the work of Gustave Moreau. They are everywhere - on the ground floor and on the second, open exhibition spaces, and the third. Put about 1300 paintings and 5000 drawings, and some 8,000 jobs in the vaults. Here is his famous "Salome", "History of mankind", "Jupiter and Semele", "the Fairy hunt", "Galatea" and unfinished paintings on easels. For a large number of sketches you can see how the work was born, in what way was the creativity of the master.
