Paris Museum of Oriental art, or the Museum of the state historical Museum, was founded in the late XIX century, rich Lyons industrialist and avid art collector Emile Guimet.

The name of the state means a lot to France. Talented and determined entrepreneur, he in the XIX century laid the foundations of the company, which later developed into the industrial group Pechiney, one of the world leaders in the production of aluminum, chemical, and nuclear fuel.

The gym was a hobby: he traveled through Greece, Egypt, Japan, China, India, collecting objects of art. He first exhibited his collection in his native Lyon in 1879 and ten years later moved it to Paris. During the life of the collector the antique theme began to depart on the second plan, the Museum acquired a purely Asian appearance. Here passed the major collections: Charles Vara Korean, Jacques Bako - Tibetan Museum, Indochina - Indochine, the French archaeological mission in Afghanistan - Afghan. In 1945, the Louvre donated to the Museum collection of the values of China and Japan in exchange for the Egyptian collection.

As a result, the Guimet Museum, as it was long called, was one of the largest collections of Asian art. It is quite natural that such a Museum was formed in Paris, the capital of the former major colonial powers, prostorova its influence to the Indochina.

Thematic sections of the collection contain unique, priceless works of art. Stand out the famous statue of the bodhisattva, taken in the late nineteenth century expedition of Alfred Foucher of district Peshawar (formerly Afghanistan, later Pakistan). The treasure of Bagram, among them madurska ivory objects, Roman glassware, wooden objects of the Han dynasty is evidence of the intensive trade of the civilizations of ancient times. The Museum possesses a collection of Khmer sculptures, which has no equal in the world. Is widely represented by the art of China, Korea, India, Japan.

Part of the Museum are the Buddhist Pantheon, which houses the Japanese collection of the state historical Museum, and the Museum Anri storing Oriental collection Madame Anne.
