SAR is a picturesque old village on the South-West of France, Aquitaine region. It is included in the Association "Most beautiful villages of France". Now there are more than two thousand people.

SAR is interesting because it is located on the border with Spain and is part of the former Kingdom of Navarre and the historical region of the Basque Country. Overall, the city prevalent is the Basque culture, and its inhabitants speak the Basque dialect.

The nearest major town is Bordeaux, which is about 200 kilometers. But SAR is just 15 kilometers from the coast of the Atlantic ocean and is 25 kilometres from the Spanish border. No wonder the locals are in close contact with their Spanish neighbours.

It is known that during the late Paleolithic period - about ten to twenty thousand years ago this place was inhabited by a tribe of irinyakov, traces of which can be found in numerous ancient caves near the settlement. Also during archeological excavations were found many graves and burial mounds dated to the bronze age.

Four kilometers from Sara is an important geographical object, which became a symbol of the Basque Country - the mountain of Rhune, part of the Pyrenees mountains. Its height is 905 meters. The rhune is a sacred place for the Basque, but it also made history by serving as a shelter during the Iberian wars of the early nineteenth century and the Second world war.
