Old AIX is a Central part of the city, surrounded on all sides by boulevards. One of its sides - the Cours Mirabeau, the main street of the city. The old part actively visited by tourists, so historical buildings are interspersed with a variety of additional attraction for visitors - cafés, restaurants, markets, shops, where you can buy traditional Provencal Souvenirs, liqueurs and sweets.

The Cours Mirabeau was built in AIX-EN-Provence in the eighteenth century. It was the city's first street intended for the passage of carriages. At one end of the Boulevard is decorated with a fountain rotunda and on the other a statue of king rené of Anjou with a bunch of grapes in his hand. It was under this ruler in Provence began to breed Muscat, which is one of the main sources of wealth of citizens.

Along the Boulevard are beautiful mansions built in the XVI-XIX centuries and the Church of St. Mary Magdalene and a couple of museums dedicated to the tapestries and the history of the old AIX. The Museum, which presents works of the weavers of past centuries, is housed in a former Archbishop's Palace.

The Museum of the ancient city is located on one of the oldest streets - the Rue Gaston de Saporta. The Museum is housed in a magnificent Baroque mansions and is adjacent to the house, which during his stay in Provence, spent the night king Louis XIV. Both buildings are decorated with latticed gates and in the courtyard of the Royal of temporary refuge walls are covered with interesting paintings.

South of Cours Mirabeau is the Mazarin quarter, where in the seventeenth century preferred to settle noblemen, and each of them has built for himself a luxurious mansion.

In the historical centre of AIX can be found also majestic building of the Cathedral Saint Sauveur, Church St Jean de Malte, located in the eponymous square.
