Art center La Malmaison: photo, description, Centre d'art La Malmaison)

The building of the art center La Malmaison on La Croisette is like a fragment of the past. On this stretch of the promenade are modern houses, and "Malmaison" stands out among them architecture of the XIX century and a small size.

His story is interesting. Once there was a luxurious Grand hotel built in 1863 by architects Viana and Blondel. The building of "Malmaison", which housed the casino and tea room, was part of the hotel complex. The hotel, which was popular among the European aristocracy, survived until the late fifties of the XX century, however, after it was demolished. In 1963 it was restored. However, to say that it is possible only conditionally - the architecture has changed, the current four-star "Grand hotel" looks boring. Although the comfort he definitely provides, and the hotel garden, overlooking the promenade and adjacent to Malmaison", looks like a real oasis.

During the demolition of the hotel they left untouched the building of the "Malmaison". In the early seventies, the city bought the building to hold the new exhibition space. After repairs in 1983 and renovated in 1993, the art center La Malmaison became well known on the Cote d'azur.

This annual exhibition of major artists of the last century such as Matisse and Picasso, who sought inspiration in the French Riviera. In 2013, Picasso's granddaughter Marina has provided more than a hundred works of his great grandfather for the exhibition, which had great resonance. Also, the arts center exhibits the work of contemporary artists. The interest of the public called the retrospective exhibition of renowned French photographer andré Villiers, who shot the great Picasso, Chagall, Le Corbusier, Dali, Fellini... Very impressive was the recent exhibition of the nice artist Patrick Moya "Moya Civilization" and the Italian sculptor Roberto Barni "Nothing is wasted".

The arts centre forms its own collection, including photographs by Lucien clergue's, Andre de Villiers, Miller and other modern masters, as well as sculptures and paintings.

From November 2013 to April 2014 in the "Malmaison" the exhibition of engravings and etchings by Georges Braque, one of the founders of cubism.
