Church of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul will not be called old: it was built in the XIX century, this is the last time the Paris Church of classical style. But its attractive force - not in the ancient stones. The Church was consecrated by the name of a real, living person, has imposed an indelible imprint on France and the whole Christian world.

The future Saint Vincent was born into a poor peasant family in 1581. The case helped him to get an education and become a priest. Remembering the poverty of his childhood, the entire first half of his life he sought out and excelled, was adopted at court, became chaplain to the noble family of Gondy.

One day, my father Vincent donated to charity a huge amount. In those days, many priests do not consider it shameful to waste the charity itself. But the next morning father Vincent came to the neighboring hospital, to leave all the money for the needs of patients. And soon secretly fled from the castle Gondi, to become pastor of the neglected poor communities.

Thus began the path that led the young priest to Holiness. In 1633, together with the Duchess Louise de Mariak he founded the congregation of the daughters of charity to help the poor and the sick, rescue the abandoned children. The priest learned how to use their vast connections at court to advance the works of mercy - it awakened sympathy in the stone hearts. He sent his followers to preach in the remote villages, where they forgot about God, and people turned entire villages. He created a whole system of seminaries to train priests, and later, for several decades, the moral character of the clergy has changed drastically. France became corps pastors, undaunted bring the Word of God.

Modest father Vincent became the most influential public figure of the era, the actors of which were seemingly only kings and generals. He was considered the Apostle of charity, its Board asked Anne of Austria. In 1737 Vincent de Paul was canonized.

A Church in his name was started in 1824 on the site of the once founded by Saint Vincent monastery that was looted and converted into a prison during the revolution. Architect Jacques Hitop completed the work in 1844.

The walls of the Church are decorated with images of one hundred and sixty saints. Attract the attention of a colossal painting of the frieze by Hippolyte Flandrena, they are considered one of the wonders of French painting.
