The Saint was possessed of rare personal courage: in 452, he personally went out to meet the leader of the Huns, and persuaded Attila not to destroy Rome. Three years later, the Pope repeated the feat met with the leader of vandals Hazarika, he entered the Eternal city, but did not betray it to fire and sword. Leo I the Great became the first Pope to be buried in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.

Vivid and harmonious appearance of the Church Saint-Leon make it worthy of the patron Saint. Mosaic of the pediment depicts a sacred Lion. In the interior of the Church a special place is also magnificent mosaics on important episodes of the first acts of the Pope: warring, the propitiation of the barbarians, the reading of the documents of the Council of Chalcedon. The choir of the Church is decorated with wonderful Byzantine mosaics, arches and decorated with wrought-iron decorations, made by master Raymond SUBA.
