Market square Marktplatz: photos, description (Marktplatz)

Although Market square was badly damaged during the Second world war and most of the buildings had been restored from ruins, it is one of the best examples of red-brick architecture of the XV century. The house is decorated with friezes of glazed terracotta and sculptures.

Evangelical Lutheran Church of STS. George and James is the oldest of the three parish churches of the old town of Hannover. The present day surviving building in the style of North German brick Gothic architecture dates from the XIV century. With its remarkable tower with a height of 97 meters, the Church of STS. George and Jacob is the hallmark of the city. The pride of the Church is a Gothic altar with scenes of the passion of Christ, adorned with copper-chasing works of Martin Schongauer.
