Tower Cabot

Cabot tower is located in the city of Bristol, UK. It is located in the Park on Brandon hill, not far from the city centre.

The tower was built in honor of the famous Navigator John Cabot, in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of his expedition. A native of Italy, the seafarer Giovanni Kaboto in 1494 moved to England, where his name is altered in the English style. In 1497 on the ship "Matthew" John Cabot reached the shores of the country now called Canada.

The construction of the tower was started in 1897 and finished in 1898. Inside the tower is a spiral staircase in the tower are two viewing platforms, which offer excellent views of the city. The upper platform is located at a height of 102 meters above sea level, the height of the tower is 32 meters.

The tower is built of red Sandstone and limestone cream color, the architectural style is neo-Gothic.

On the other side of the ocean, in St. Johns (Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada) is another Cabot tower also built in honor of the 400th anniversary of Cabot's discovery the coast of Canada.
