Big Market in the 9th district - the oldest and largest indoor market in Budapest. It is located at the end of the famous pedestrian shopping street váci utca on the pest side of Liberty bridge. The idea of building a big market in Budapest belonged to the first mayor of Budapest, Karl Kammermeyer, it was his largest investment project. After retiring in 1896, upon completion of construction, he took part in the opening ceremony as a citizen.

The market building was designed and built in 1897. The market consists of a huge number of kiosks located on three floors. Entrance gates in neo-Gothic style have touch control. A distinctive architectural feature of the structure is a roof of colorful tiles delniski. The building area is 10,000 square meters.

And the First and Second world war have not bypassed the famous market. In both periods it was completely damaged, and for several subsequent years has not worked. Restoration work carried out in the 1990-ies, the market returned to its original splendor. Today the Big market is one of the popular tourist attractions of the city.

The market is open on all days except Sundays from 6 am Monday to 5 PM, from Tuesday to Friday until 6pm and Saturday until 3pm.
