The Otto Herman Museum is the largest Museum in Miskolc was founded in 1899 and was once called the Museum of Borsod-Miskolc (Borsod is the historical County, with its capital at Miskolc). The Museum contains more than 600 000 exhibits. The main emphasis of the exhibition is on archaeology, Mineralogy, arts, history and Ethnography.

The Museum was nationalized in 1949. And the name Herman Otto, a famous Hungarian zoologist and ethnographer, he received the 1953. From 1963 it collects artifacts not only from the regions of Miskolc and Borsod, but from all over the County Borsod-abaúj-zemplén.

The Museum occupies several buildings both in Miskolc and Borsod-abaúj-zemplén. The main building is located on Erzsebet square and is the oldest of all, here are the highlights of the collection. Building on Görgey street was built in 1952, here are the Museum of fine arts, library and storerooms.

In 1999, the Herman Otto Museum was awarded Museum of the Year.
