The bird sanctuary of Kumarakom, or whatever he's called reserve in Kerala, Kumarakom is a Paradise for avid bird watchers, and lovers of beautiful views and pleasant relaxing holiday. This scenic area is located in the South-West Indian state of Kerala, on the banks of the largest in the state, the Vembanad lake and river Kavanar, 14 kilometers from Kottayam town.

The main attraction of Kumarakom is, of course, the wildlife - lots of birds, both settled and migratory. Especially numerous species such as cuckoo, common egret, egret, cormorant, water hen (also called swamp), darter, brahminy kite, Siberian crane, various species of owls and ducks. It is also possible to observe such birds as the parrot, Teal, Flycatcher, when they arrive on wintering from the Himalayas or Siberia.

In addition to birdwatching from the shore, if desired, at the Park you can rent a boat and take a small "trip" on the water Vembanad or Cavalary.

The most successful and best time for observation is at sunset when the birds return to their nests, and the time right before sunrise when they left.

Since 2008, WWF-India organizes a special two-day trips to the nature reserve for ornithologists and lovers to observe birds. And the Corporation for development of tourism in Kerala (Kerala Tourism Development Corporation) is planning to open in the reserve of the international center for bird-watching.
