Formerly known as Jag Niwas, lake Palace, located in the ancient city of Udaipur, is now considered one of the most luxurious hotels in the world. It is located on a small (16000 sq meters) rocky island of Jag Niwas in the middle of beautiful lake Pichola.

The Palace was built during 1743-1746 years during the time of Maharana Jagat Singh II, the ruler of Rajasthan, as his summer residence. Optional Jagat Singh, it was designed in the likeness of the beautiful palaces of Agra, the "face" to the East, and as a building material used was white marble. The building is a multistoried building with huge patio, multiple open terraces, colonnades, pools and the upper room, perfectly round shape, instead of a roof which has a magnificent dome. The walls of the Palace is decorated with elaborate plasterwork, inlaid in black marble, the colored mosaic.

During the Indian uprising of 1857 it was in Jag Niwas were hiding in Udaipur Europeans. After that this architectural masterpiece has been virtually abandoned. He had been slowly disintegrating under the action of wind and moisture, while in the second half of the XX century the owner, a descendant of the rulers of Bhagwat Singh decided to convert it into a hotel of class "luxury". The designer, who undertook to restore and decorate the Palace became the American artist Didi. It was under his guidance an abandoned and dilapidated building got a second life. And in 1971, the hotel came under the management of the group Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, which in 2000 carried out a second restoration of the Palace.
