The temple of Ulun Dunow is the main Saiva temple on the island of Bali. It is located on the water, so also called the water temple.

The temple complex stands on the shore of lake Bratan, which is also called the lake of Holy mountain due to the fact that the land where that lake is very fertile. The lake is located at the foot of mount Gunung Katur, at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level. The lake is quite deep in places its depth reaches 35 meters. Water from the lake used by farmers for irrigation of their lands, where they grow fruits, vanilla, cocoa and coffee.

The locals worship the goddess of lake Bratan - Dewi Danu. There is an ancient legend that if you swim in the lake, you're going to live long, and the body will stay young. The locals try to visit this lake at least once a year.

The temple of Ulun Dunow was built in the XVII century, during the existence of the powerful Kingdom of Mengwi. It was held the ceremony of Balinese worship the goddess of water, lakes and rivers, Dewi Danu, lake Bratan has been an important source of water for the Central part of the island of Bali.

Water temple complex consists of four temples. In the first temple, Linggu Peace worship the Lord Shiva. The second God Vishnu, in the third - God Brahma, and the fourth - Dewi Danu. The temple is very beautiful, from afar it looks like pagoda rising out of the lake. Pagoda temples have a different number of arches - 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11. The number of arches tells about the dedication to a specific deity. The main temple, Linggu Peace - has 11 tiers.

Near the temple complex has a restaurant where you can taste the local cuisine, and there is also a market where you can buy Souvenirs.
