The historical centre of Grado with its numerous monuments of culture and architecture is one of the main tourist attractions of the resort town. It is located on the site of an ancient settlement - Kostroma and, for the most part, restricted to the area of Campo dei Patriarchi, which are the main attractions. The architectural shape of the square reminds of the religious role of Grado, who for many years was a place of refuge for the bishops of Aquileia, who was in confrontation with various political forces.

The main buildings of the historic center of Grado are the Basilica of Santa Eufemia, the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the baptistery (the bell tower of Santa Euphemia) - they were all built in the 6th century. Also pay attention to the ruins of the Basilica Della Corte and the city Lapidarium with fragments of Roman and early Christian buildings. In order to preserve these ancient monuments, the centre of Grado is closed to car traffic and completely given to pedestrians and cyclists. Another interesting place in the historical centre of the city is Piazza Biagio Marin, with its archaeological site Dating from Roman times.

In the center of Grado, on the site of the ancient Castrum, stands the Basilica of Santa Eufemia, which is the title of Cathedral. Its construction began in the first years of the 6th century and was completed only in 579, the year - Basil is considered the oldest surviving Christian Church in the city. It was built on the site of another Church, the Basilica of Petrus, fragments of which also survived. In its internal and external appearance shows the influence of Byzantine architecture and mosaics adorn the interior, are the main "highlight" of the building. Special attention deserves the baptistery, the bell tower of the Basilica of Santa Eufemia. It has the shape of an octagon, and in the center of the baptistery is the hexagonal baptismal font. The interior is very simple - it refers to the architectural elements and the decorations. In the 17th century, the baptistery was restored in the Baroque style, and in 1933, the year he returned to the original look, while retaining some Baroque elements.

An indispensable part of the historical centre of Grado is the Lapidarium, located in the Basilica of Santa Eufemia. Its main attraction are the fragments of the buildings of Ancient Rome and the first centuries of Christianity.
