Campo Ligure: photo description (Campo Ligure)

Campo Ligure is a small town in the Central part of Liguria, situated in a hilly area not far from Genoa, on the border with Piedmont. The city is not a tourist Mecca, but there are several attractions worthy of attention, if you find yourself in this part of the country.

The historic center of Campo Ligure, the most interesting for tourists, lies on the banks of the river Stura up to the old stone bridge. This part of the city bounded by the streets of via Giuseppe Saracco and via della Giustizia, completely pedestrian. The main square in the historic centre of Campo Ligure is the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. Here you can see the Palazzo Spinola, with its impressive façade, built in the 14-17 th centuries, and two noteworthy religious structures - the Church is Wound di Maria Vergine and the chapel of Nostra Signora Assunta. Both churches built in the Baroque style in the 18th century. In the heart of Campo Ligure also worth seeing the oldest Church of the city, dated to the 12th century. However, it was restored in the last century and now looks quite modern.

The above mentioned bridge over the river Stura dates back to the 19th century, but in his place over the last Millennium there were different bridges, which suffered from constant flooding.

From different points of Campo Ligure you can see, perhaps, the most important monument the city's history - an old castle standing on a hill a little away from the city. It was built in the early 14th century, but the round tower in the centre is a later building. Below the castle the orchards of Turin is a kind of outdoor gallery created by local artist Gianfranco Timossi. In the Park of wooden sculptures placed, successfully blended into the natural landscape.

Campo Ligure is one of the most beautiful villages of Italy, and it's easy to believe, wandering through the narrow streets of the old town centre with its colourful houses and sleeping cats on the stairs.

Close to Campo Ligure is a Botanical garden Protomonadina created in the 1970-ies for cultivation of orchids. Today in the garden and grow other types of plants, including tropical. Best time to visit is from may to July.
