Loggia del Mercato Nuovo, popularly known as the Loggia del Porcellino, is a building in Florence. There is also the Loggia del Mercato Vecchio, located near the modern Piazza della Repubblica.

The loggia was built around mid 16th century in the heart of Florence, just few steps from Ponte Vecchio. Initially it traded in silk and luxury goods and, later, the famous straw hats, and today it sells mainly leather goods and Souvenirs. In the corner niches were to be placed the statues of eminent Florentines, but only three of them were made, the first leader of the rebellion Chompy (Guild gossip whores) Michele di Lando, historian and public activities of Giovanni Villani and the artist and sculptor Bernardo Cennini.

Attraction of is Foun Loggia del Porcellino (Fountain of the Piglet"), a copy of the bronze figure of a wild boar the work of Pietro Tacca, made from a piece of marble of the 16th century. In 2008, this masterpiece of takka was replaced by a copy, and this marble pigs can be seen today in the Palazzo Pitti. Folk belief says that if you RUB the pig's nose it will bring good luck, so this part of the statue has acquired charteree lights. Besides this, tourists often put coins in the mouth of the pig, this ensures the fulfillment of a wish.

Another unusual place in the Loggia del Mercato Nuovo - the so-called "scandalous stone" ("Pietra dello was scandalo"). It is a round spot marked with a colored marble in the center of the loggia, only visible when no sales stalls. The design reproduces one of the wheels medieval Carroccio four - wheeled carts-the altar, which were fixed in the city flag. Carroccio, stood in this place and around it going to the troops before battle. Later the place changed its destination and obtained a new name - "Pietra del accolate" ("stone punishment"). In the Renaissance of insolvent debtors at this place a chain shackled to a pole and beaten with sticks on naked hips.
