Museum and national gallery of Capodimonte: photos, description (Museo Nazonale di Capodimonte)

At the Northern boundary of the city, on the top of the hill of Capodimonte, surrounded by its Park, stands the majestic building of the former Royal residence. It was built in 1730-ies George. Medrano by order of Charles of Bourbon, who was going to post here a vast collection of antique and Renaissance art, inherited from his mother Elisabeth Farnese. However, it took nearly a century before the Palace was completed.

Now it houses the Museum and national gallery of Capodimonte. You can see the best paintings of southern Italy, including Bellini, Botticelli, Caravaggio, Titian, Masaccio, Correggio, as well as a fine collection of porcelain.
