Museum of art and history and Memorial garden - a very interesting sight in Trieste, situated at Piazza della Cattedrale. Geographical location of the city and the development of Maritime trade made it possible to gather here a rich collection of artifacts from the ancient kingdoms ranging from Ancient Egypt and ending with Mesoamerica. In addition the Museum you can see prehistoric objects from the neighbouring Trieste karst plateau, finds from the fortified settlements in the early iron and bronze ages, an extensive collection of Roman artifacts from Aquileia and the Mediterranean, a huge collection of ceramics from Ancient Greece, dated from ancient times until the Hellenistic period. It also exhibits finds from the excavations in Taranto and collection of Fabietti from El Salvador. The jewel of the collection is the legendary relief rhyton of silver, an ancient drinking vessel in the shape of horns with the head of a young Faun, dated to the 5th century BC.

We should say about the Egyptian Museum's collection, numbering over a thousand items, it introduces the lifestyle and civilization of Ancient Egypt in General. In the Museum you can also see sarcophagi made of granite and limestone, and three wooden, all of them decorated and contain a human mummy, which is more than three thousand years. Finally, the Museum can boast the pyramids and stelae, fragments of papyrus and Egyptian alabaster canopic jars (vessels) used to store viscera of the deceased. Part of the Museum's collection is a statue depicting the main deity (sacred animals and zoo-anthropomorphic deity), images of servants of the dead, made of stone, wood and earthenware, and trinkets.

In the Memorial garden, located next to the Museum, you can see the neoclassical work of the sculptor Antonio Bosa, to perpetuate the great German historian and antiquary Winkelmann, who was tragically killed in Trieste in 1786, the year. Here you can explore the Roman exhibits from Aquileia, Istria and Tergeste, as well as the medieval and modern city monuments.
