Museum of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Aosta holds in its centuries-old walls priceless works of art masters in Val d Aosta 13-18 centuries. In the historic center of town behind the main square, Piazza Emile chanoux, you can see two of the old bell tower belonging to the Cathedral. Archaeological excavations conducted here in the 20th century, helped to restore the different phases of construction of the Cathedral, the first building which was erected in the middle of the 4th century. To our days have survived the crypt of the 11th century and a cloister of the 15th century.

The Museum, connected with a covered gallery, is of particular interest to visitors to the Church due to its priceless collection. Here you can see the diptych of ivory work, Anicia test with the image of the Emperor Honorio, fragments of monumental marble gravestones of the 15th century work of Stefano Massetana, made for Roger of Morizet, Francesco Challans and Tommaso II of Savoy, gold jewelry and other items. There are gold Gothic jewellery and objects worked out by the Flemish master Jean de Molina, including an absolute masterpiece, a huge reliquary of San Grato, designed by William di Locana and embellished Malina, an interesting cross made of crystal made in the 14th century in the municipality of Rames, bust of St. John the Baptist, delicately decorated incense sticks for religious ceremonies and prayer books that belonged to different bishops.
