The Museum of the peoples of Abruzzo: photos, description (Museo delle Genti d'abruzzo)

The Museum of the peoples of Abruzzo, located in Pescara in via delle Caserme, is one of the most interesting attractions relating to the history and art of the many ethnic groups living on the territory of the Italian region of Abruzzo. The Museum building was built on the Foundation of the legendary fortress of Pescara, which has played an important role in the history of the city, just a few metres from the Adriatic sea. Along with antique objects found on the territory of Abruzzo and nearly 4 thousand years, in the Museum you can see exhibits telling about the way of life of the local people.

The first eight rooms of the Museum were opened to the public in June 1991. And the work on its creation began long before - in 1973-m to year, on the initiative of the Archaeological club of Pescara and the Association for the study of popular traditions of Abruzzo. These two organizations founded the first Museum of folk traditions of Abruzzo and a permanent archaeological exhibition. Initially, the exhibits were placed in the house, the birthplace of Gabriele d'annunzio, the most famous native of Pescara, and later for the Museum was allocated a separate building, the so - called "baths of Bourbon", which in the 16th century was used as a prison. In 2003 and 2004, the company opened the last seven halls of the Museum, and a well-equipped auditorium, an exhibition hall and a library café.

Today, the Museum of the peoples of Abruzzo, you can trace the history of the appearance of man in these places, ranging from the Palaeolithic to the mid-20th century, when mechanization of production processes irreversibly changed the way people live and their culture. This Museum is certainly one of the most visited not only in Pescara, but in the whole region of Abruzzo.
