The Museum of the Risorgimento and Oberdan memorial is an important historical monument of Trieste, a popular tourist attraction. Soldiers ' home, built by architect Humberto Nordio on the place of the Austrian barracks, where, in 1882, the year was executed by Guglielmo Oberdan, today converted into a Museum dedicated to the movement for Italian unification - Risorgimento. Guglielmo Oberdan, a native of Trieste, was a member of the party of irredentists (supporters of the reunion of ancestral lands). 20 Dec 1882-year (at that time, Trieste was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire) after a failed attempt of the assassination of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph he was executed, becoming, thus, a Martyr of the Italian unification movement. Memorial Oberdan installed next to the building where he was imprisoned awaiting execution, is the monument made by the sculptor Attilio Selva.

The Museum of the Risorgimento store documents, photos, uniforms, various relics and paintings relating to the events and characters of the movement for the unification of Italy, starting with the uprisings of 1848, the year and until the end of the First World war. The first exhibits of the Museum were artifacts collected by the writer and patriot Filippo Zamboni. Most of the exhibits on display in the Museum, was purchased through private donations. Here are the documents, uniforms and personal belongings of the writer and the military-irredentist, Scipio of Slataper, fellow patriots Gianni and Carlo Stuparich and sailor and irredentist Nazario Sauro, hero of Italy, in whose honor was named two ships of the Italian Navy.

The large main room of the Museum dedicated volunteers from Friuli and Dalmatia, is notable for the impressive frescoes by Carlo Sbisa. It also exhibits a wonderful painting Carlo Vostra "Trieste 30 Oct 1918", dedicated to the return of Trieste to Italy squad.
