Pruno - the biggest forest of the Cilento region located on the South of the province of Salerno in the Italian Campaign. Within Pruno is entirely for the municipality of Valle Dell'angelo, Laurino and Piaggine, a small village of Cannalonga, Campora, Rofrano, Sanza, Novi Velia and Monte San Giacomo, only partially capture the forest. In addition to the forest there are mountains - Vesala, Monaco, Hiatella, Scanno del Tesoro, Raia del Pedale and Tucci and the river Calore and several caves with examples of ancient primitive art - cave paintings.

Pruno is one of the most pristine natural areas of the Campaign and one of the least populated in southern Italy. It is part of the national Park of Cilento and Valle di Diano, which, in turn, is object of the world Natural and Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. The forest itself lies between the mountains of Monte Gelbison and Monte Cervati at an altitude of 600 to 1300 meters above sea level. For centuries in Pruno settled farmers and peasants, and at the end of the 19th and in the second half of the 20th century was was two waves of emigration.

The population of the three main communes of Pruno is only about 40 people, and in fact they can be considered a single municipality, divided into three parts. The hamlet of Laurino is located South of the Croce di Pruno, the center of the forest. It consists of about 15 farms, scattered over a large area. Near Laurino you can find a canyon with a small Grotte di Sant'elena, and in the first half of the 19th century, the commune has gained national renown as a kind of headquarters of the gang, Giuseppe Tardio. Municipality of Valle del Angelo, also known as Pruno Casaletto, lies close to the canyon Quarantine. Interesting fact - the first time electricity came here only in 1992. Finally, Piaggine, or Pruno Cainero, is the smallest of all villages with a population of about 10 people.
