Rocca Imperiale: photos, description (Rocca Imperiale)

Rocca Imperiale, whose name can be translated as "Imperial rock" is a popular resort located in the Italian region of Calabria, on the Ionian coast. Constantly the town is home to only about 3.5 thousand people, but in high season, its population at the expense of tourists increases a lot. Generally, the resort of Rocca Imperiale is relatively young. It was formed around an ancient settlement of the same name, which lies at the heart of the Peninsula at a distance of 4 km from the sea. This ancient Rocca Imperiale once played an important role as beneficial was located on the way from Puglia to Calabria. The city was founded in the 13th century by Emperor Frederick II and is named after the name of a magnificent castle, towering on a rock. Place for the construction of the castle was chosen - a cliff offers a wonderful view over the Bay Tarentsky from "heel" to "toe" of the Italian "boot". The castle, which are preserved only fragments of walls, bulwarks and bridges, now under construction under the auspices of UNESCO. Among the other attractions of Rocca Imperiale is called Cathedral of the 15th century, the Church of Sant'antonio and Santa Maria, the chapel of the Madonna della Nova and the wax Museum, located in an old monastery.

Rocca Imperiale is the last settlement of the Calabrian coast of the Ionian sea. Its luxurious beach stretching for about 7 km beach connects with the neighbouring resort Nova Siri and attracts thousands of tourists. I must say that the resort is not very many hotels, mostly located pensions. More luxurious places to stay can be found in Nova Siri there the hotels have four or more stars.

"Highlight" of Rocca Imperiale has long been considered to be the cultivated lemons, which are exported all over Italy. Every summer, the town held the festival of lemons, in which it is possible to buy lemon honey, Limoncello liqueur, lemon jams, syrups and tinctures, as well as various products in the form of these citrus fruits. In these same days is a theatrical performance in Medieval style, with trumpeters, drummers, knights and beautiful ladies.
