Castle San Pelagio and Museum of aviation and cosmonautics: photos, description (Castello San Pelagio)

Castle San Pelagio and Museum of aviation and cosmonautics is located in the town of due Carrare in the province of Padua in the Italian region Veneto, not far from the thermal resort of Abano Terme. The castle is also known as Villa Zaborra - for nearly 400 years, he serves as the seat of the counts Zaborra.

The Central part of the castle consists of a tower of the 14th century with intact teeth - it was built by order of the Carraresi family from Padua. Later round towers were built a typical Venetian Villa. Around the castle there is a beautiful Park to the main garden and the secret garden, the century-old hornbeams, fruit trees, a Lily pond and a real glacier. The famous collection of old English roses (almost a thousand plants!), as well as the thermal baths of the late Roman period that were discovered in the Park during the restoration. We should also mention the maze area of 1200 sq. m., which consists of thousands of trees with a height of almost 3 meters. In the center stands the huge figure of the Minotaur, which delights visitors. Another maze called "Maybe Yes, maybe no" is dedicated to Gabriele d'annunzio - it consists of one trail with mirrors and a wonderful Tree fairies.

Since 1980, the year the castle of San Pelagio (to be precise - 35 rooms) is used as a Museum of aviation and Astronautics in memory of the great Italian poet Gabriele d'annunzio, who is also a real passion for aviation. It was here in 1918, the year he went with his Venice flight detachment at Vienna with a demand to surrender. Four rooms of the castle dedicated to d'annunzio.

The Museum features over 300 models of airplanes, airplanes, balloons, flight uniforms from different years, mannequins and engines that cover the history of aviation from mythical flight of Daedalus and Icarus to the present day. Most of the Museum dedicated to the history of the conquest of space - here you can see Vela Solare, an experimental space ship, made by engineers at the University of Padua, and images of the space probe Giotto.
