South-Kazakhstan regional Museum of victims of political repression - one of the museums of the city of Shymkent. The Museum was opened in November 2001 and was timed to 10th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence. Museum of victims of political repression in Shymkent is one of the first museums in the country dedicated to the memory of victims of political repression in 1937-1938.

In the past century, Kazakhstan had to go through many tragic events and all these events are reflected in the Museum exhibits. The main purpose of this Museum is to honor those who died in those years people who were victims of the political regime and natural disasters.

In the Museum of Shymkent recreated pretty terrible pages of history of the country - hunger, which led to the death of more than three million people, the mass executions during the great terror, the tragedy that brought the idea Goloschekin on the "Small October", the hard life of the women prisoners in the camps.

The author of the project of the building of the Museum is the honored worker of arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan, architect - A. the Department. The Museum, which occupies two floors, has two offices - the office of administration, area 23, and 25 sq m storage area 23, and 25 sq m and two rooms - a showroom with a total area of 236,19 sq m and a Room of sorrow, with an area of 37,70 sq. m.

In the center of the Museum you can see the installed sculpture "Repression", which displays the pain and suffering of the Kazakh people. The Museum exposition consists of the portrait gallery of public figures of Kazakhstan, who experienced the brunt of repression. Here you can see the portraits of A. Baitursynov, M. Shokai, M. Tynyshpayev, Zh. Aimauytov, M. Zhumabayev, T. Ryskulov, and others.

Each year, visitors to the Museum gets about 15 thousand people. Also, very often the Museum of victims of political repression became the center conducts various events.
