East Kazakhstan drama theatre named after Zhambyl in Ust-Kamenogorsk - stationary repertory theatre. The drama is set in one of the oldest buildings of the city, but also all over Kazakhstan. It was built in 1902 as the people's house. There were many events that played an important role in Eastern Kazakhstan.

The initiator of the construction of the building was made by F. O. Kostyurin. The decoration of the facade in a free and asymmetrical layout can be seen a strong influence of art Nouveau. Thanks to the architectural details the building has a very expressive and plastic form. Opening the people's house took place in October 1902 the First play put on stage was a play called "the working suburb".

Present professional theater in town was, that's why the locals in 1935 decided to go to M. I. Kalinin with the request to help them with the formation of the troupe. A petition of citizens was satisfied. The first theatrical season was opened in January 1936 with a performance of N. Gogol's "Marriage". In 1939 the theater received the status regional. The theatre was not terminated even during the great Patriotic war. In the cold, but the crowded hall of the theater staged performances that set people to win.

In July 1946 the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk city Executive Committee decided to assign the regional drama theatre named after the famous Kazakh akyn Zhambyl. At that time the repertoire special attention was paid to foreign and Russian classics. In 2000, on the basis of East-Kazahstanskogo regional drama theatre of a name of Jambala was created the Kazakh group. Since then the theater has two troupes: Kazakh and Russian.

Today drama theatre named after Zhambyl is an architectural, historical and cultural monument of the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk.
