Mountain Jerai, or as it was called earlier - the peak of Kedah, is located in the Federal state of Malaysia, Kedah. To be more precise, the mountain Jerai is located near the town of Sungai Petani, the second largest city in the state of Kedah, near Penang. The height of the mountain - 1175 m. in the territory of the state, the mountain borders with the districts of Kuala Muda and Yan.

Heavy elongated silhouette of the mountains Jeri visible for several tens of kilometers. It is considered the highest point in the state of Kedah. On the mountain top with a stand, which indicated that the mountain was formerly an island called Pulai Serai before the time when the water level in the sea fell, and formed a mountain. But this fact has no historical or scientific evidence.

From a historical point of view, the mountain played an important role in the history of the state of Kedah. About 1,500 years ago, the mountain Geri served as benchmarks for the Indian and Arab traders and navigators.

It is worth noting that in the Hindu-Buddhist world is very often the mountain was deified. The ancient Malays in the era of the Kingdom Bujang, mountain Geri also was considered sacred, therefore, on its slopes were temples built. In the early nineteenth century there were conducted archaeological excavations, in which were discovered the ruins of a Hindu temple of the VI century.

Like other mountains, this mountain has its own legend, which says that a long time ago in the valley Bujang there was an ancient Kingdom, which was headed by the king Raja Bersiong. The Kingdom was at the foot of the mountain Jerai. During recent archaeological excavations have discovered the temple of the Nine lakes, which were probably built on the site of the lakes which belonged to the king Raja Bersiong.

The surface of mountains is covered with forests. Many tourists climb the mountain and enjoy the picturesque surroundings.
