National Park Lagunas de Chacahua, created in 1937, is located in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It can be reached either by car via highway 200 or by boat from Puerto ESCONDIDO. The Park covers an area of 132,73 sq. km. Approximately one fourth of the Park are the lagoon de Chacahua, de La Pastoria and Las Salinas. There are also several small lakes connected by narrow channels.

National Park, to the South bounded by the Pacific ocean became the first protected area in tropical ecosystem in Mexico. Its landscape is quite varied. Here you can find swamps, jungles, deciduous forests, savannas, sand dunes, highlands. The temperature here never drops below 20 degrees. Park Lagunas de Chacahua is home to 246 species of plants, 189 species of animals. Attentive visitors to the Park will notice a huge variety of birds: here you can see storks, herons, wild ducks, pelicans, spoonbills. There are three types of turtles that lay their eggs in the warm sand on two local beaches. By the way, the beaches are not just for reptiles. Any visitor to the reserve can relax on the shores of the Pacific ocean. Lovers of strong emotions will not fail to take in the coastal waters with a diving or snorkeling expedition. The Park also has a café and a few items of sports equipment.
