Church Of The Holy Trinity

Photos and description

The Trinity Church is located just two stops from the Central square of Taxco de alarcón between the streets de Canabsorb and Miguel Hidalgo a few meters from the Parque Vincente Guerrero. The Church is small, so in the local tourist booklets, it is often called a chapel. I suppose that this Church was built in the XVI century and first consecrated in honor of the Power of God. During the rebuilding of the temple in the eighteenth century restorers were able to preserve its previous original design. Also, the observant will notice on the facade of the Church of the Holy Trinity decorative elements from the XVI century. This allows us to conclude that the chapel of the Holy Trinity is one of the oldest churches of Taxco de alarcón.

This Church, surrounded by thick walls with arched gates, is not used in local bright sacred holidays and festivals, such as the adjacent chapel of San Nicholas of Tolentino. Only during Easter week in Holy Trinity Day around the Church is a festive procession in which participants carry a variety of sculptures, including the image of the Holy Trinity.

In the chapel are a number of large statues of Jesus Christ, virgin Mary and saints made by local craftsmen in the past century. For example, the figure of the Crucified Christ were made over 150 years ago and is considered the oldest statue of its kind in Taxco. These sculptures a year, are kept in glass cases and on religious holidays removed for ceremonies and processions.
