It is believed that the ancient Aspendos was founded in the fifth century BC by colonists from Argos and the founder of the city called the prophet of the Pug. To avoid invasions from the sea, a city built at a distance of 16 km from it, on the banks of the then navigable river Eurymedon (the current name of the river - Kepru). Aspendos was part of a Maritime Confederation of Delices until 425 BC. Now, Aspendos is famous for its amphitheatre built in the second century and later renovated by the Seljuks.
